Material selection
Raw material manufacturers offer a wide range of thermoplastics for producing injection molded MIDs using LPKF-LDS technology:
PA6/6T (semi-aromatic polyamide), based on Ultramid® (BASF AG)
- high thermal dimensional stability, suitable for reflow soldering (including lead-free solder)
- good mechanical properties
PBT, PET and blends (thermoplastic polyester), based on Pocan® (LANXESS)
- good mechanical and electrical properties
- high thermal dimensional stability with addition of PET
Crosslinkable PBT (polybutylene terephthalate), VESTODUR® CL (Degussa AG)
- migration-resistant flame retardant (V0-0.4 mm according to UL94)
- irradiation crosslinking for high heat resistance (all soldering processes)
LCP (liquid crystal polymer), based on Vectra® (Ticona GmbH)
- good flow properties
- good dimensional stability under thermal stress
PC/ABS (polycarbonate/acrylnitrile butadiene styrol)*
- good surface properties
- good mechanical properties
